Thank You CACC for Helping Us, ‘KACF’

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Thank you to the California Agricultural Communications Coalition for the ’social media’ workshop yesterday in Santa Rosa. Without that we have not gotten to ‘knowacaliforniafarmer.com’! We are already discussing which programs we want to use and how to improve the sites we are currently working with. I will admit it was A LOT of information, but now that the steam has quit pooring from our ears we are ready to Facebook, Google+, blog, network and make videos. (Thanks wine guy!)
Sincerely,

“Test-Tube Hamburger”

Monday, February 27th, 2012
A friend of mine on Twitter sent me a link to an article titled “First ‘test-tube’ hamburger to be produced this year” and wanted to know my thoughts, so… The idea of being able to take bovine stem cells, growing muscle tissue in a lab and then taking that tissue and turning it into “hamburger” is an intriguing idea. Being from California, I suspect I have a slightly different perspective on the issue of crop insurance. However, I also believe that there are others, particularly in Florida and Michigan, to name a few, who have some similar thoughts. I mention this because of our tremendous diversity in crops grown, many of which do not even qualify for support from the current or past Farm Bills.  [...continue reading]

Field Rotation – Phase IV (Drilling)

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011
I finished discing  the evening before having to leave for a bull sale. The long range forecast was calling for precipitation in five days…three days at the sale would leave me two days to get the wheat drilled before the rain/snow began to fall…if the meteorologist was correct. Since I was planting wheat, an annual [...continue reading]

Labeling, GMOs, GMEs, and COOL

Monday, November 21st, 2011
Off and on, over the past few months, I have seen and participated in several discussions relating to labeling and specifically, labels relating to GMO’s. Twitter is not the best place to have this discussion, in my opinion, so I have put together my thoughts on the subject here. GMO vs GEO I catch myself [...continue reading]
